How do you like them apples? Who remembers that quote from Good Will Hunting? (I was obsessed with that movie back in the day!)
While in that movie they were most definitely not talking about eating farm fresh apples (insert chuckle), we are today talking about just that – the literal apple.
In Michigan, where I live, we produce approximately 900 million pounds of apples a year! That is a lot of apple love. From small farms to commercial produced varieties, in the fall we take our apple eating seriously. And those farms that also serve donuts, cider and corn mazes – well they are always a must do fall activity for my family!
What is your favorite apple variety? I grew up eating Jonathan apples, but these days I prefer a nice crisp gala or sweet honeycrisp. There are so many varieties of apples and some lend themselves better to baking than eating. My husbands family is a huge fan of the ‘apple seconds’ and using those to make gallons of applesauce to put in the freezer. While I have done that in the past, the only applesauce fan in my house is my son, so it is not really worthwhile at this point for me to spend hours doing that. Although, in this round up there is an vegan apple butter recipe that has caught my eye to spend time making this year!
